Meet Mrs. Bates
I am extremely excited to be your child’s third grade teacher this year and ecstatic to be teaching third grade again. This is my third year at The Museum School and I am absolutely thrilled about this upcoming year! Third grade will be an exciting yet challenging time for your child. Your child will be introduced to new skills and concepts and the curriculum differs tremendously from second grade. It is extremely imperative that we collaborate to make this transition as smooth as possible. Effective parent-teacher communication is a must!
A bit about myself, I am originally from a small suburb outside of Milwaukee, Wisconsin called Brown Deer. I am entering into my ninth year of teaching. I have taught second grade for five years and third grade for three years. I received my Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education at Tennessee State University, in which I graduated Summa Cum Laude. In addition, I received my Master’s Degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Central Michigan University, which I maintained a 4.0 cumulative GPA. I am also certified to teach gifted and middle grades (grades 4-8). In addition, I am a proud member of the prestigious Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated.
I have been married to my loving and wonderful husband Jonathan Bates for six years. We have a beautiful five year old daughter together named Kennedi Elaine and three year old son named Aidan Kenneth. I also have a loving step-son named Jaylen who is in fourth grade. At my leisure, I enjoy reading, traveling, cooking, shopping, and spending time with my family.
Regarding my educational philosophy, I believe that all students can learn and should be engaged in the learning process at all times. I also believe that students should be made aware of what is expected of them, and educators should be firm and consistent, but yet nurturing. I believe that students should grow academically, socially and emotionally in an atmosphere that is stimulating and adaptive to their diverse needs. Most importantly, I believe that the learning process should be a fun and rewarding experience for both the student and the educator.
Please remember that my door is always open. Welcome to OUR third grade class. I look forward to working with you as partners in education your child. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me. The fastest way to reach me is by my school email, [email protected] but you may also reach me at school during my planning period, which is at 1:30-2:15 p.m. Be sure to carefully read the attached packet. This packet is filled with extremely informative information and will give you a glimpse of my instructional approach and classroom management system. Again, with your cooperation and support, I know that we can make this the best year yet for your child!
Sincerely,
Shaniece Bates
